Bicycles are a standard mode of transport in the Netherlands, with 36% of Dutch people listing the bicycle as their most common way of going around on a regular day. 

As of 2019, it was calculated that there were about 23 million bicycles in the Netherlands.

Not surprisingly, a large number of bicycles end up in the canals of Dutch cities.
