Deaths From Asbestos-Related Disease by U.S. county
Although the U.S. has regulated asbestos exposure since 1971, deaths from malignant mesothelioma have continued over the past two decades. The disease, which can develop after inhaling asbestos fibres, caused or contributed to more than 45,000 deaths in the United States between 1999 and 2015.
