Big Solar & environmentalists are clashing over the California desert

Much of the California desert is already dedicated to military bases, national parks and wilderness areas, tribal lands, and more. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is proposing to designate 10 million additional acres for conservation, recreation and renewable energy.

 US. Bureau of Land Management plan to allocate some 10 million acres of public land in the California desert for conservation (5.3 million acres), recreation (3.8 million acres) and clean-energy installations like Desert Sunlight (388,000 acres).
